DIDI SENFT

Didi Senft (born Dieter Senft on February 7, 1952 in Reichenwalde near Berlin) probably is the world’s best known bike designer.

In 1993, the inventive Brandenburgian joined the Tour de France for the first time riding his groundbreaking tandem together with his wife Margitta. On the three-meter “Tour de France racer” it’s Didi who decides on the direction of travel. The clueless fellow biker sits back to front on this unique bicycle, backpedaling. This one and many other peculiar bicycle designs made Didi not only the media’s darling but world-famous.
He is a fixture on the international cycling scene. Inspired by the “red kite”, or “flamme rouge” in French, a triangle-shaped piece of red cloth announcing 1,000 meters to go to the finishing line, Didi chose the devil’s costume for accompanying the racing cyclists on their last “tantalizing” meters of a cycle race. On the international scene he is also known as – El Diablo.
Didi was a guest in over 50 television shows. Large magazines around the globe, for example in Canada, the USA, England New Zealand, Egypt, China, Iran, Thailand, Belgium, Russia, The Netherlands, Italy, Bulgaria, Switzerland and many other countries report on the spectacular bike models of the ingenious Brandenburgian.
In 2015, Didi Senft became the new testimonial of Rockefeller – a german trading company for office supplies – and will “rock” the Tour de France for his new partner.

BETWEEN NEU BOSTON AND PHILADELPHIA

Didi Senft knows where it’s at. At least when he is on tour with his three-meter “Tour de France racer”.

Not all of the 120 exceptional bike designs by Didi Senft are suitable for road traffic. With his largest bike in the world, a whole 7.80 meters long and 3.70 meters high, the former bicycle racer from Kolpin might go for a spin on the tartan track of a soccer field at most. Since 1989, the skilled body manufacturer has been listed in the world-famous Guinness Book of Records. To direct the huge, 3.32 meters high wheels is an art in itself, which only the master himself is capable to perform.
In comparison, Didi’s “munchkin bikes” are really cute: No more than 19 and 32 centimeters are the dimensions of the rideable midgets, the wheels of which were taken from a creemee machine.
Really gorgeous is a ride on Didi Senft’s “X-bike”. For this awesome design requiring a good and proper load of suppleness, the bike designer sawed up a folding bike and welded it again at a wrong angle.
The ultimate attraction at the moment is a two-wheeled steed whose left pedal must be backpedaled.
There were many to give the ride with the wacky “backpedaling bike” a try, even cycling world champions and Olympic champions, however, no one except the ”grandmaster of bike curiosities”, how Didi is called meanwhile, got to grips with it.
